ABSTRACT

The genetic parameters namely, variability, heritability and genetic advance as per cent of mean, were estimated for 32 groundnut genotypes during Kharif, 2025. Among the 15 characters studied, the number of mature pods plant⁻¹ and pod yield plant⁻¹ exhibited high phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) and genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV), indicating the presence of substantial genetic variability for these traits. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance as percent of mean was observed for dry haulm yield plant⁻¹, number of mature pods plant⁻¹, pod yield plant⁻¹, kernel yield plant⁻¹, number of primary branches plant⁻¹ and harvest index. This suggests the predominance of additive gene action in the inheritance of these traits. Therefore, direct selection for these characters would be effective in improving pod yield plant⁻¹ in groundnut.
